Science

Approaches
This resource discusses seven approaches to increasing students’ science proficiency. Click below to learn more about each approach:

I. Focus on building student understanding of foundational science ideas over time.

II. Help students understand how scientific knowledge is produced—what it means to “do science.”

III. Actively engage students in the practices of science through productive investigations.

IV. Learn students’ existing ideas and design instruction around conceptual change.

V. Provide ongoing opportunities for students to communicate what they think and why.

VI. Use literacy appropriately to strengthen science learning.
