Phonemic Awareness Instruction
Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds in spoken words, as well as the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds within words. Explicit phonemic awareness instruction is most commonly provided to students in kindergarten and early first grade, although some work may continue into higher grades, especially if students have a specific need.
